Shift Brewer

Reports to: Director of Brewing

Speakeasy Ales & Lagers, one of California's fastest growing regional craft breweries, is looking for a Shift Brewer. We are in the midst of an expansion in our San Francisco facility and have purchased state-of-the-art production equipment that will allow us to continue our growth. To do so, we are looking to add talent with a passion for craft beer and devotion to quality.

Production employees at Speakeasy Ales & Lagers take part in all aspects of fermentation, dry hopping, yeast-wrangling, tank cleaning/sanitizing, filtration, and carbonation, as well as brewery cleaning and upkeep.

Primary duties and responsibilities

  • Wort Production on twin 30BBL brewhouse
  • Brew House CIP
  • Fermentation Management
  • Dry hopping
  • Yeast Wrangling
  • Assist in general brewery cleaning and preparation for events

Schedule

Four rotating shifts, 6-week cycle between rotations. (5) full 8-hour workdays per week, Graveyard shift rotation is (4) full 10-hour workdays per week, paying overtime after 8 hours each day and allowing for a 3-day weekend… more money, long weekend!

The ideal candidate would possess the following skills and qualifications:

This is not an entry-level position.  3+ years experience is preferred, but candidates must have a minimum of one-year professional experience working in wort production, filtration, or cellar work of a brewery or winery.  Must possess strong understanding of fermentation and CIP practices.  Previous production shift brewing preferred.

  • Minimum of one year cellar or brewing experience
  • Fanatical cleanliness with strong attention to detail
  • Highly accountable, able to self manage
  • Ability to follow stringent sanitary practices
  • Ability to frequently and repeatedly lift 55 lbs., and capable of moving 150 lbs.
  • Ability to work a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week, with the flexibility to work nights or weekends as needed.

Warehouse Operations Coordinator

Reports to: Supply Chain Manager

Speakeasy Ales & Lagers is seeking a motivated individual to join its operations team in the role of Warehouse Ops Coordinator. This role will be based at the off premise Speakeasy cold storage office. The Warehouse Ops Coordinator will be in contact with both company Sales Reps and Distributor Reps and must be able to create and maintain working relationships with a number of key customers across the country. This position will be highly self-managed; the right candidate will be a motivated individual adept at identifying potential issues within their daily workflow and collaborating on effective solutions.

Primary duties and responsibilities

  • Entering, organizing, coordinating, and invoicing sales orders received from sales reps and wholesale distributors on a daily basis. 
  • Tracking changes and delivering accurate final orders as orders change and are finalized.
  • Managing the daily/weekly/monthly plan for outbound loads to wholesale distributors based on sales needs and production capabilities.
  • Work closely with warehouse staff to ensure correct and timely loading/fulfillment of orders to meet promised delivery schedules.

Ancillary duties and responsibilities 

  • As a function of daily workload, some assistance may be required to help warehouse staff accomplish all shipping goals, and thus prior forklift training/certification is a big plus. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and required

Schedule

This position’s schedule is in line with typical shipping/receiving hours, beginning in the early AM (No earlier than 6am) and ending in the early afternoon (no earlier than 2:30pm).  This is a full-time, hourly position with an overall expectation of 40 hours/week, but the exact schedule will vary dependent on weekly workload. 

The ideal candidate would possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Must have proficient computer and typing skills and be Microsoft Office literate. Proficiency with QuickBooks is strongly desired.
  • Ability to work a schedule of (5) full 8-hour workdays per week, with the flexibility to occasionally work nights or weekends as needed.
  • Highly organized individual who will take pride in maintaining a clean, well-functioning warehouse.
  • Good communications skills; this position requires constant coordination with vendors, operations, and fellow warehouse staff.
  • Forklift training/certification
  • CRM/ERP experience (NetSuite and/or SalesForce a plus)
  • Possess a valid CA Drivers License
  • A passion for craft beer!

Hitman/Sales Representative (San Francisco)

Position Summary:

Armed with a hit list of key on-premise accounts, the Hitman’s role is to develop business and increase the availability and visibility of our brand in our SF territory. As an expert in craft beer you are tasked with educating both industry professionals and the public by being our brewery ambassador at promotional events, tasting sessions, and local festivals.

Essential Job Requirements:

  • 1 to 3 years experience with outside sales or within the beer industry.

Market Manager (Southern California)

Reports to: Director of Sales

Position Summary:

Responsible for distributor management, the development of new draft business, management of key accounts, and increasing the availability and visibility of our brand in your assigned territory. As an expert in craft beer you're tasked with educating both industry professionals and the public by being our brewery ambassador at promotional events, tasting sessions, and local festivals. The Market Manager will also be responsible for coordinating distributor inventories, point-of-sale needs, and liaising with distributor sales reps. This position will be based out of Los Angeles.

Distributor and Account Management:

  • Management of key distributors in Southern California.
  • Heavy focus on driving on-premise distribution and sales directly and through distributor reps.
  • Work well under pressure and have the ability to manage multiple distributors needs.
  • Plan, develop, conduct promotions, events, and quarterly incentives.
  • Motivate distributor management and sales force in order to achieve sales objectives, including the development and oversight of wholesaler incentive programming.
  • Ensure growth of brand presence within existing accounts.
  • Works closely with the Chain Account Manager(s) to ensure he/she is familiar with on/off premise strategies and programs.

Profitable Growth:

  • Meet regional and individual sales objectives as they relate to overall brewery goals.
  • Operate effectively within company and budgetary guidelines.
  • Work with distributor to manage inventory and participate in product and merchandise selection to forecast inventory needs and meet sales goals.
  • Analyze trends for distributor accounts, events, product and merchandise sales.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree/Associate’s degree is strongly preferred
  • Cicerone or equivalent training is a plus

Experience/Skills:

  • 2-4 years industry sales experience, distributor management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the LA/SoCal beer market preferred.
  • Proven ability to meet and exceed sales goals.
  • Fluency in the Apple OS universe and Microsoft Office, experience with VIP preferred; utilization of CRM systems.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, verbal communication, account focus, management proficiency, managing profitability and quality.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to be proactive and take initiative.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and events.
  • Excellent interpersonal and proven leadership skills.

Packaging Associate

Reports to: Packaging Supervisor
Role: Packaging Associate - PM Shift (2pm - 10pm)

Job Description and Responsibilities

Packaging employees at Speakeasy Ales & Lagers take part in all aspects of bottling, keg cleaning and filling, packaging prep, as well as brewery cleaning and upkeep.

  • Operation and upkeep of kegging line
  • Position work on Bottling and Canning lines
  • Packaging preparation work
  • Organization of packaging material inventory
  • Organizing and stacking of empty kegs
  • Cleaning and organization of packaging and bright beer storage areas 
  • Assist in general brewery cleaning and preparation for events

The ideal candidate would possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Strong preference given to candidates with prior brewery, bottling or manufacturing experience
  • Highly organized individual who will take pride in maintaining a clean, well-functioning packaging area.
  • Ability to follow stringent sanitary practices
  • Ability to complete repetitive movements and frequently and repeatedly lift 35 lbs, and capable of regularly moving 150 lbs
  • Commitment to ensuring safe completion of complex and potentially dangerous tasks
  • Ability to self manage
  • Forklift certification a plus
  • Ability to work a schedule of (5) full 8-hour workdays per week, with the flexibility to occasionally work nights or weekends as needed
